‘Oh Mr Valve, with zees expansions you are really spoiling us!’ The Orange Box is ridiculously good value, containing the genius of Half Life 2 and its episodic expansions, the mind-bending challenge of Portal and Team Fortress 2, one of the most enjoyable online multiplayers you’re ever likely to get your hands on. For most people, Half Life 2: Episode 2 will be the main reason for purchase. And it is worth every penny. Finally taking you beyond City 17, this sequel both builds on the original story of Gordon Freeman and takes it in some interesting and enticing directions. More please!
Portal is a lovely three dimensional puzzler than involves creating small wormholes to escape your environment. It is a fantastic example of creative complexity from a simple premise. And the cherry on the cake is Team Fortress 2. Almost cartoon in appearance, this is a hugely inventive squad-based shooter that is slick, quick and as rewarding on day 30 as it is on minute one. Go on, spoil yourself, The Orange Box is a once in a lifetime bargain.
