'Emmerdale' star Chris Bisson was often left feeling "very tired" of playing "miserable" Jai Sharma.

The 38-year-old actor stars as a desperate dad who initially denied having son Archie - who is the result of an affair with Rachel Breckle (Gemma Oaten) - and ended up lying to cover up his actions.

He said: "There's been times when it's left me feeling very tired. I don't mean the story. I just mean tired of playing this broken, miserable man whose lying to everybody and keeping secrets."

Chris admitted to being overcome with emotion shooting the harrowing scenes in which his alter-ego's baby is left fighting for its life after being born prematurely especially since it came around the same time he welcomed his son, Harry - who he has with his girlfriend of six years, Rowena Finn - into the world.

He added to Inside Soap magazine: "This time last year Jai didn't know whether Archie was going to live or die. I was playing those scenes while waiting for my own son to make an appearance, and I know now that I couldn't even comprehend losing him in real life."
