Disney's 'Frozen' is set to become a Broadway musical, CEO Bob Iger has confirmed. However, there is currently no set date for the stage version to be completed.

Disney's 'Frozen' is being turned into a Broadway musical.

The smash hit animated film will follow in the footsteps of Disney's hugely successful movie-turned-musical 'The Lion King' as it will be adapted for the stage, CEO Bob Iger has confirmed.

The media conglomerate has yet to set a firm date for the musical as they are concentrating on getting the project right.

Iger told CNN's Fortune: "We're not demanding speed. We're demanding excellence.

"If you think long-term about what Disney is and the success and the vitality of the brand, this is a very, very important event."

'Frozen' has been a huge global success both critically and at the box office where it grossed over $700 million worldwide. The film has become Disney's second highest-grossing non-Pixar movie after 'The Lion King'.

The animated hit - which featured the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad - has also spawned a hugely successful soundtrack, which topped the US album chart last week.

The movie's signature song, 'Let It Go', sung by Menzel, received critical acclaim and was nominated for a Golden Globe.

'Frozen' won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Picture and is a strong contender going into the Academy Awards.

Princess Anna (Bell) is disturbed to find that her sister Elsa (Menzel) can create ice and snow, but when Elsa goes into exile the kingdom freezes, and Anna and friends must find her. With no celebrity voice-overs or pop culture gags, just a venerable story, good songs and classic characters, it's an old-fashioned delight.
