Tim Minchin and Matthew Warchus developing musical stage adaptation of Groundhog Day
The Matilda collaborators are working with original screenplay writer Danny Rubin on the project
Following their massive success with the musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's Matilda, comedian Tim Minchin and lyricist-director Matthew Warchus have turned their attention to iconic 1993 comedy Groundhog Day. The pair are reportedly working on the project with Danny Rubin, who wrote screenplay for the original film in which Bill Murray is forced to live through the same day over and over again.
Warchus said to the Daily Mail that their new production 'has to be something in its own right, not just a carbon copy.'
‘We’ll be doing the first workshop in the spring,’ he added. ‘Tim and Danny have been working on it for a while. I’ll decide where it should go — London or New York — once I see what kind of show it is. We won’t know until we run it through at a workshop.’
