Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman have been nominated for the National Television Award 2014's TV Detective gong, but will stiff competition from Idris Elba, Bradley Walsh and David Tennant

Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman have been nominated for a National Television Award 2014.

The 'Sherlock' star and the 'Broadchurch' actress will go head-to-head for the new TV Detective gong at this year's ceremony, taking place at London's o2 on Wednesday January 22.

Idris Elba will also battle it out for the prize after being recognised for his role in 'Luther', along with Bradley Walsh for 'Law & Order UK', Suranne Jones for 'Scott & Bailey' and David Tennant for his part in 'Broadchurch'.

Meanwhile, Ant and Dec could receive their thirteenth consecutive best presenter award after receiving a flood of nominations, but they will have to fight off stiff competition from Keith Lemon, Graham Norton, Alan Carr and Dermot O'Leary.

Despite a dip in ratings this year, 'The X Factor' has been short-listed for the Talent Show prize, along with rival show 'Strictly Come Dancing', 'Britain's Got Talent' and 'The Voice UK'.

Long-standing rivals 'EastEnders' and 'Coronation Street' will fight against each other, along with 'Emmerdale' and 'Hollyoaks', to be crowned the winner of the Serial Drama category.

While 'Broadchurch' will battle it out against 'Downton Abbey', 'Call the Midwife', and 'Doctor Who' for the Best Drama award.

The National Television Awards will be hosted by Dermot O'Leary and the winners will be chosen by the public in a nationwide poll.
