'Emmerdale' star Jason Merrells is "buzzing" about watching the Home Farm fire play out over the festive period.
The 45-year-old actor's character Declan Macey will attempt to commit suicide by burning his house down while he is inside the ITV soap's abode, and the star is looking forward to see how the "ambitious" episodes are received.
He said: "It's been really interesting. It's been difficult and very challenging and we're very excited by Christmas because it's not all bleak and there's a really interesting twist to the story, we feel. It's quite ambitious what we've decided to do over the Christmas episodes - over the three episodes.
"So we're all quite buzzing about it and we're hoping people will enjoy it."
Jason admits the scenes had elements of danger for everyone involved but that only added to the realism.
Speaking on ITV's 'Lorraine', he added: "I don't think this has been attempted, certainly not on a programme like ours, ever before. One of the interesting things about it is the fire goes through the whole episode.
"It's not just a little bit of fire and then the end and the aftermath. It's kind of the theme of the whole programme.
"We had a brilliant exterior built and we had a brilliant interior in an old tank factory which was a huge cavernous building.
"We could set light to it as we saw fit, which was great. There were a few moments in there that were quite dangerous for all of us."
