Two Door Cinema Club almost snubbed Latitude Festival
Two Door Cinema Club nearly forfeited the opportunity to headline Latitude Festival next year because they didn't think they were a big enough act.
Two Door Cinema Club almost snubbed the chance to headline their first festival.
The indie rockers will be the star attraction at Latitude Festival next July but the trio - which includes Kevin Baird, Alex Trimble and Sam Halliday - nearly forfeited the opportunity because they didn't think they were a big enough act to top the bill.
Bassist Kevin told the Daily Star newspaper: "We debated for a long time whether we were ready to play to 20,000.
"We worried about headlining Latitude in case festival-goers said, 'It's a great bill apart from Two Door Cinema Club. Why are they headlining?' "
The 23-year-old musician hopes their set will encourage festival promoters to book more up and coming bands in future.
Kevin mused: "With Latitude, we want to send a message that it's time festival promoters took more of a chance. There's a real lack of development in festivals.
"It's a problem but all we can do is play a great show so that other promoters will say, 'They're worth a bet.' "
The group have only managed to score one UK Top 40 single, 'Changing of the Seasons', which landed at 33 but Kevin insists this isn't a true measure of their success.
He explained: "The majority of our fans don't listen to the charts. They aren't the force they were and that's great because it means you can do things independently. Our success isn't down to a record label throwing money around."
Two Door Cinema Club will be joined by American sister trio Haim, Billy Bragg, Royksopp and Robyn when Latitude Festival commences at Henham Park in Southwold, Suffolk, England, from July 17 to July 20, 2014.
