'Fifty Shades of Grey' producers are to make two versions of the movie.

Bosses of the film, which follows the sexual adventures of bondage-loving millionaire Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and his virginal paramour Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), are to make an X-rated version of the motion picture, which will be shown at special licence cinemas, and a toned down offering.

Producer Dana Brunetti admits fans of E.L. James' erotic novel of the same name, which the movie is being adapted from, have taken to Twitter asking for the film to be "dirty".

She said: "What we're kind of hearing from the fans is they want it dirty ... they want it as close as possible [to the book]."

Dana admits the movie's bosses are keen to ensure the film isn't classed as "mommy porn", but they also want to please the book's big fans.

She added to Collider.com: "I always thought it would be really cool if we released the R version [18 in Britain] and then we had an NC-17 version that we released a few weeks later.

"Everybody could go and enjoy the R version, and then if they really wanted to see it again and get a little bit more gritty with it then have that NC-17 version out there as well. That is my idea, but the fans and the studio [Universal Pictures] will benefit from the double dip...

"We do not want this film to be seen as mommy porn - we want to keep it elevated but also give the fans what they want."

  • Directed by: Sam Taylor-Johnson
  • Cast: Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Luke Grimes, Victor Rasuk, Jennifer Ehle
  • UK release: 13 February 2015

Despite its troubling gender politics and distinct lack of plot, the likeable Johnson brings nuance and charm to a paper-thin character; Dornan manages to offer a hint of humanity; and given the many constraints, this sleek, fairly trim and occasionally sensual adaptation is the best imaginable outcome.
