The 43-year-old TV presenter was given a police caution after admitting common assault last night (26.11.13) on her new 27-year-old roofer husband Jack Cockings.
Police were called at about 9.45pm after Jack reportedly dialled 999 to say the TV presenter had assaulted him, although he did not need hospital treatment.
Officers visited their home in Hampstead, north London, after a row escalated and arrested Melanie, who married Jack in May this year after a whirlwind romance.
The lingerie model was taken to a local police station where she had a mugshot, DNA and fingerprints taken and is believed to have spent the night in custody.
A police spokesman said: "Police were called at 9.45pm on Tuesday to a residential address in Hampstead following reports of an assault.
"A 43-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of common assault and taken to a north London police station.
"She was given a police caution for common assault."
The couple's lavish ceremony was attended by fellow TV presenters Eamonn Holmes and Des O'Connor - her old sidekick from their days presenting afternoon chat show 'Today with Des and Mel'.
Melanie's first marriage to actor Daniel Caltagirone ended in 2009 after eight years. They have two children together - Roman, 11 and Valentino, nine.
