Hogmanay 2013/24 - the best Glasgow club celebrations

Forget sheltering inside from the frost and snow: warm your cockles on the dancefloor with our selection of the best of Glasgow or Edinburgh's seasonal club nights

Scotland's focus on large-scale live music events might shift to the east for Hogmanay, but Glasgow's growing reputation as one of Europe's finest clubbing cities means that great nights don't let up over the holiday period. Sadly, the excitement we'd built up in anticipation of The Art School's reopening was cut short by the venue's postponement of the ribbon-cutting, but thankfully the scheduled Optimo (Espacio) Hogmanay Party has still managed to find a home at the Glue Factory. No guests have been mentioned as yet, although with Twitch and Wilkes in charge that's hardly a problem.

The Optimo team is also hosting a smaller party at the Sub Club on Boxing Day, and the Subbie's other festive nights include Animal Farm's Ninth Birthday featuring a four-hour set from Marcel Dettmann (Ostgut Ton, Berghain) on 29 Dec, and a Hogmanay party featuring Andrew Weatherall alongside the Subculture team of Harri and Domenic. Other big Hogmanay nights at popular venues include guest appearances from Space Dimension Controller and Tiger & Woods at La Cheetah and a Melting Pot residents' special alongside Divine! at the Admiral. The credibly disco-steeped Melting Pot is also bringing Greg Wilson to Glasgow for a set at Hillhead Bookclub on 26 Dec.

Although the Arches haven't yet announced their Hogmanay guest, on 26 Dec they welcome Sander van Doorn for the traditional Colours Winter Party, while smaller Hogmanay dates at credible venues include Harsh Tug and Voodoo Voodoo residents at Nice 'n' Sleazy, the MILK party at Flat 0/1 with live guests including Hector Bizerk, and the combination of much-loved indie nights Common People and Yes! (the former with guest DJ Mark Morriss from the Bluetones) at the Flying Duck.
