Paul Feig is developing a 'The Heat' spin-off.
The director has announced his intentions to create a follow-up film to this summer's hit female cop comedy, which starred Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, centred around supporting actresses Jamie Denbo and Jessica Chaffin's characters.
Introduced as McCarthy's alter-ego Shannon Mullins' loudmouth extended family from Boston, Beth (Denbo) and Gina (Chaffin) proved popular with audiences, despite having limited screen time in the first movie.
In a statement published on Deadline.com, Feig said: "Jamie and Jessica are two of the funniest people on this planet. They took small roles in 'The Heat' and turned them into characters worthy of their own movie. I can't wait to unleash Beth and Gina on the world. Run for your lives."
The pair have already worked with Feig, who directed them in a pilot episode for comedy characters Ronna & Beverly. Tricia McAlpin has already set to work on a script for the movie.
Bullock recently insisted she wouldn't take part in a sequel to the laugh-a-minute flick because past follow-ups she's starred in, 'Speed 2: Cruise Control' and 'Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous', were "horrible".
She said: "I'm not doing a sequel to 'The Heat'. I've done two sequels. They were horrible. What Melissa and I had was beautiful. We might do another film together. I think we should do a silent film together."
