Interview: DJ/producer Neil Landstrumm on Si Begg and new LP Dragon Under
Plus stream Dragon Under, which Landstrumm describes as 'very dark underwater disco'
It's great to see the old GRV back up and running again, now rebranded as The Bothy at The Dram House. It's a wonderful intimate venue for live music and sweaty club nights. In other words, the perfect venue for some dark complex techno.
Si Begg is difficult to categorise, his productions have swung through the worlds of ambient to harsh teeth-gnashing acid. 'He always brings an unexpected collection of music to play out,' explains fellow producer Neil Landstrumm who co-headlines the night. 'He's an old friend from the very beginnings of my career at Mosquito Records and I have a massive amount of respect for Si.'
Landstrumm – who describes his music as 'somewhere between the sensation after eating a kilo of cheese and decent techno-rave/acid house which is a bit unsettling and/or euphoric' – will be playing live excerpts from his new album Dragon Under. 'The new LP is focused squarely back at the dancefloor with 4x4 rhythms and techno as the central core. It has way more electro on it and nods to acid house and disco even on a couple of the tracks. A very dark underwater disco.'
