Spike Lee is in early talks to direct 'Spinning Gold', a biopic about record executive Neil Bogart which will star Justin Timberlake in the lead role
Spike Lee is in talks to direct Justin Timberlake in 'Spinning Gold'.
The 'Inside Man' director is being courted to helm the new biographical drama about record executive Neil Bogart (Timberlake), who is often credited with the rise of disco.
The rags-to-riches story tells how Bogart rose from a working class background in Brooklyn, New York, to become one of the most influential music impresarios of his time.
The Casablanca Records founder helped launch the careers of music legends such as Gladys Knight, Donna Summer, KISS, The Village People and more.
Bogart died in 1982 at the premature age of 39.
'Spinning Gold' is being scripted by the late record executive's son, Timothy Scott Bogart. He will also produce the film alongside Timberlake, Gary A. Randall and Mark Damon.
The film marks actor-and-singer Timberlake's return to movies after making a musical comeback this year.
Timberlake, who released his first album in seven years in March, was most recently seen in critically panned thriller 'Runner, Runner' with Ben Affleck. He will next be seen in the acclaimed 'Inside Llewyn Davis' which co-stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan and was directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.
Lee's next movie is 'Oldboy', which stars Josh Brolin and Samuel L. Jackson.
