'Evil Dead' director Fede Alvarez has reportedly been lined up by Universal to bring popular video game 'Dante's Inferno' to the big screen.
Fede Alvarez is tipped to direct a film adaptation of 'Dante's inferno'.
The 'Evil Dead' director has reportedly been lined up by Universal to bring the popular Electronic Arts video game - based on the famous 14th Century literary work 'The Divine Comedy' by Dante Alighieri - to the big screen.
The film follows Dante, who is re-imagined as a knight who ventures into the nine rings of hell to rescue his love Beatrice with the help of the poet Virgil. However, he unwittingly becomes a pawn in a war between heaven and hell.
Universal won a bidding war with three other studios for rights to the game in 2008 before it was released for Xbox and PlayStation two years later.
Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are on board to produce with EA Entertainment vice president Patrick O'Brien.
Newman and Abraham recently wrapped production on MGM and Sony's 2014 'Robocop' remake, while O'Brien is working alongside Dreamworks to produce a film adaptation of popular EA racing car game 'Need For Speed'.
