TV awards spell a hat-trick for Ant and Dec

  • 1 November 2007

Primetime partners Ant and Dec won a hat-trick of prizes at the National TV Awards, signalling that the public may have forgiven them for last month’s premium phone-in scandal.

The winning shows were among those involved in the scandal, which badly damaged ITV’s reputation.

I’m a Celebrity and Saturday Night Takeaway were given a vote of confidence though, taking the gongs for best realty show and best entertainment programme.

The Geordie pair were also named best hosts, collecting their awards via a video link from Los Angeles.

Held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the ceremony lavished Doctor Who with two awards, including best drama for the third year running.

Collecting the award, David Tennant said: ‘I’m having the time of my life and I’m so glad you’re enjoying it.’

Elsewhere, Eastenders won best soap and Top Gear took the award for best factual show.
