The King crowned top earning dead celebrity
Elvis Presley has been renamed the highest earning dead celebrity, after being beaten to the top spot by Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain last year.
The King earned $49 million (£23.7m), earning royalties from DVDs, licensing deals and tourists who still make the pilgrimage to his Graceland mansion in Memphis.
According to Forbes.com, next on the list was John Lennon with $44 million, followed by Peanuts creator Charles M Schulz ($35m) and George Harrison ($22m).
The 13-strong list earned a combined $232 million (£112.2m), with contributions from Albert Einstein, Andy Warhol and rapper Tupac Shakur.
Soul legend James Brown - who died late last year - and actor Steve McQueen were newcomers to the list. Marilyn Monroe meanwhile was the only woman to make the top 10.
