Top paintings to go on show in Inverness
Inverness Museum and Art Gallery is to host major works by Sandro Botticelli and Pablo Picasso as part of exhibition on maternity in November.
The project involves Highland 2007, Highland Council and the National Galleries of Scotland, and is part of efforts to make art accessible to a wider audience.
The Maternity exhibition opens on November 10 and the paintings on loan from the National Galleries of Scotland include Botticelli’s The Virgin Adoring The Sleeping Christ Child.
James Holloway from the National Galleries, said the partnership with Highland Year of Culture 2007 would bring the collections closer to people in the Highlands.
Chairman of Highland Council’s education, culture and sports committee, Bill Fernie added: “At this time of year people from right across the Highlands travel to Inverness for their Christmas shopping, so the timing of the exhibition couldn’t be better.”
The exhibition will run until January 12.
