Name The Mighty Tabot Sound System
Who? London/Wolverhampton dub and roots soundsystem featuring dub plate builder Ras Muffet, Ras Gabre on the mic and Ras Kinfe working the system. Ras Muffet was part of Jah Shaka’s crew back in the 70s, supplied tracks for Aba-Shanti and set up the Roots Injection Studio in the 90s, producing tunes for everyone from Iration Steppas to Sista Rasheeda. Ras Muffet joined forces with Ras Gabre and Ras Kinfe and the Mighty Tabot Sound System was born.
So it should be a forward thinking night of roots? Too right. Tabot has a strong reputation for spiritual and uplifting vibes as well as a unique taste in music. Expect plenty of dub plate exclusives from both systems. ‘Tabot is coming to promote Roots Injection and new artists,’ says Ras Muffet. ‘We are not ones for chasing down well known artists, we are dealing with youths, the up and coming artists of today. Tabot will also be promoting female artists, and although a new sound, we’ve got the advantage of years of sound system experience. The response that other sounds get when they play Roots Injection material makes us realise Tabot is going to be a force to be reckoned with.’
Sounds like a perfect match for Edinburgh’s dub masters, Messenger It will be a meeting of minds as well as music as both sound systems will be rocking the Bongo Club. That’s right: not only will the rock steady Messenger system, featuring MC Ras Echo, be in place, The Mighty Tabot will be bringing their own rig up from London. ‘This is a night where you will hear roots, reggae and dub music from both the Messenger and Mighty Tabot sound systems in unity and harmony,’ says Steve Messenger. ‘Praise Jah in the Dance.’
The Mighty Tabot Sound System joins Messenger, The Bongo Club, Edinburgh, Sat 10 Nov.
