Motley Crue are set to split in either 2014 or 2015.

The heavy metal band will call it a day at some point over the next two years so they can go out on a high and be remembered for their illustrious 30-year career.

Singer Vince Neil told The Oakland Press newspaper: "We want to go out on top. We don't want to be one of those bands that people are like, 'Oh, they're playing a ... little club now.'

"We still sell out arenas and do stadium shows and stuff like that, and that's how we want to be remembered."

The health of the band's guitarist, Mick Mars, is also a major consideration as years of touring have taken their toll on his ankylosing spondylitis, a form of chronic arthritis.

Vince added: "It's just time. Mick's health is not that good, and touring is tough on him.

"I'm sure in five, 10 years time we'll probably do something together again, but it's not gonna be like a Kiss farewell to the farewell to the farewell tour. We're not gonna be like that."

As well as a final tour, Motley Crue are also set to release one last album, which Neil suggested could be the soundtrack for a movie adaptation of their memoir 'The Dirt'.

Vince also intends to release some solo material before he parts ways with the veteran rockers, which also includes drummer Tommy Lee and bassist Nikki Sixx.

He added: "I'm planning to release something maybe before the end of the Motley run.

"That way it would come out right toward the end of that, and I can just go straight from Motley and continue touring on the solo album. That's the idea now, at least."
