Blake Harrison wants to slap his Big Bad World alter-ego
'Inbetweeners' star Blake Harrison is to appear as hapless university graduate Ben in new Comedy Central sitcom 'Big Bad World', but admits he would love to "slap some sense" into his egotistical character.
Blake Harrison wants to "slap some sense" into his 'Big Bad World' character.
The 'Inbetweeners' actor plays hapless university graduate Ben in the new Comedy Central sitcom, but he would find it tough to be pals with his egotistical character in real life and finds it funny when his alter-ego gets brought down to earth.
He said: "He's a lot of fun to play, but I couldn't be his friend without wanting to slap some sense into him.
"He thinks a lot of himself but that only makes it more satisfying and funnier when he comes tumbling down from his pedestal.
"I know a couple of people that think they are always right. I don't think I'm like that ... but maybe that's what Ben would say?"
While Blake insists he is not as self-centred as Ben, he admits they share some of the same traits.
He added: "I think the way in which Ben puts all his energy into pursuing not just relationships but the wrong relationships is definitely something I did in my teens and early 20s. However, I was a lot less optimistic and confident than him.
"Ben is romantically delusional. Any opportunity he has to turn a rejection into something more hopeful he'll take.
"Even when an ex-girlfriend is clearly happy with a better looking, employed and more ambitious man, Ben will find a way of convincing himself that he has a chance."
'Big Bad World' - which also sees Caroline Quentin (Jan) and James Fleet (Neil) star as Blake's onscreen mother and father - debuts on Wednesday (21.08.13) at 9pm on Comedy Central.
