Rod Stewart shows off latest model
- 25 October 2007
Rod Stewart has fulfilled one of his greatest ambitions after his New York model railway set appeared on the front cover of the world’s biggest model railway magazine.
The Scottish rocker has said in previous years that gracing the front pages of what is considered the railway enthusiast’s bible would ‘mean more to me than the cover of Rolling Stone’.
The magazine Model Railroader pictures the railway set, built by Stewart in his mansion in Beverley Hills.
A perfect 1:87 scale model of a 1940s Grand Central Station in New York, it features 100ft of track, hundreds of tiny passengers and a backdrop of skyscrapers representing the famous skyline.
The 62-year-old said of his hobbies: ‘I’m a great model railway enthusiast and I’m building a huge layout over there in California so that takes up a bit of time and football takes up a bit of time.’
