Steve Coogan hopes his Alan Partridge movie 'Alpha Papa' will have a "positive impact" on fans of the long-running character

Steve Coogan hopes 'Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa' has a "positive impact" on fans.

The actor is set to bring his most famous character Alan Partridge - who he has portrayed on TV and radio for nearly 20 years - to the big screen in the new comedy caper and he hopes the movie is enjoyable for the beloved character's loyal fans, even if it won't be in contention for an Academy Award.

Appearing in character at the film's premiere at the Vue West End in London's Leicester Square yesterday (25.07.13), he told BANG Showbiz: "I don't think the film's gonna win the Oscars; let's not be too silly about this because, of course, it's not about mental illness or the Holocaust. I just want it to have a positive impact on people's lives. If it stops one child from sniffing glue or throwing eggs on my car then it'll be a job well done."

While 'Alpha Papa' marks Partridge's transition from the small screen to the big screen, the radio DJ from Norfolk insists fame won't change him - at least to an extent.

He said: "I don't think [fame] has changed me, I think I'm gonna always be the regular guy that likes to go for walks, likes to go swimming, you know, likes to be in the top tax band, and likes to have Timothy Dalton on speed dial.

"But I do think I'll make certain changes. I'm planning a long gravel driveway with a gated security and video intercom, just to keep people at bay."

'Alpha Papa' is in cinemas on August 7.
