Roisin Murphy (4 stars)

Róisín Murphy

Overpowered (EMI)

A love or hatred of Roisin Murphy’s former band aside, there’s no arguing with the fact that this ex-Moloko vocalist currently makes some of the most sophisticated electro pop around. Boasting catchy melodies, demonic basslines, sleek production and sultry vocals that Sophie Ellis-Bextor can only dream of, Overpowered is yet another triumphant solo offering from Murphy affirming her place as one of dance music’s most inventive artists. Featuring collaborations with Bugz in the Attic’s Siji, Andy Cato of Groove Armada and the inimitable Richard X, this string-tinged squelchy second offering is gloriously upbeat and infectious.
