'The Only Way is Essex' star Mario Falcone has revealed he took more than 40 painkillers in an attempt to kill himself earlier this year before being sick and regurgitating them.

Mario Falcone tried to kill himself by overdosing on painkillers washed down with champagne.

The 'Only Way is Essex' hunk took 40 "horrendously strong" painkillers in April in an attempt to end his life after being accused of cheating on his then-girlfriend and co-star Lucy Mecklenburgh, but he woke up and started being sick and regurgitated them.

The 26-year-old reality star - who has previously told how he suffers from depression - told Now magazine: "I took an overdose of 40 horrendously strong painkillers that I'd got on holiday earlier this year and washed them down with half a bottle of champagne.

"I fell asleep and woke up at 5am being violently sick.

"I can't remember much, only that I was relieved when I woke up because I realised how f***ing stupid I'd been."

Mario was driven to drastic action after he was accused of cheating on brunette beauty Lucy - who he has since split from - which led to him falling out with his best friend and co-star Little Chris.

He added: "I was distraught. Lucy was my world. She wasn't just my girlfriend, she was my best friend.

"I thought: 'I've definitely lost her over something I haven't done'. Plus, I'd fallen out with two close mates - Little Chris and his brother Ben - because of it and I was getting abuse on Twitter.

"I was just thinking about all the things going wrong in my life and the reasons why I was so depressed. I couldn't stop the negative thoughts. It was so silly."
