Jimmi Harkishin's challenging Corrie role
'Coronation Street' star Jimmi Harkishin admits he has found it "challenging" portraying Dev Alahan in recent months following the death of his character's wife Sunita Alahan
'Coronation Street' star Jimmi Harkishin says it "hasn't been enjoyable" putting himself in Dev Alahan's shoes recently.
The 48-year-old star - who has portrayed the shop owner since 1999 - admits it has been an emotional rollercoaster playing his character lately after the businessman's wife Sunita Alahan (Shobna Gulati) was killed by evil Rovers Return firestarter Karl Munro (John Michie).
He said: "At this stage, I just don't know how Dev would be affected if he knew what Karl had done.
"It's hard to know precisely how he would react until it's written. Dev has really been through it in the last few months, and it hasn't been easy.
"But he knows he has to pick himself up again and carry on with life.
"Putting myself in Dev's shoes hasn't been enjoyable at times, but it's certainly challenging. So I've just been trying to roll with it, and let it all come naturally."
Jimmi has been pleasantly surprised that Dev has been helped through his trauma by neighbour Mary Taylor (Patti Clare), and insists the pair's "incredible relationship" has been a "well-considered" storyline.
He added to Inside Soap magazine: "The pairing of Dev and Mary may not seem to be a natural one.
"But it's actually an incredible relationship that really works. Dev also has Sophie [Webster, played by Brooke Vincent], but she's like an older daughter to him, and is a cross between Dev and the children."
