Gypsy Sisters coming to TLC
US show 'Gypsy Sisters' is coming to TLC, exposing the lives of a community in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
'Gypsy Sisters' is coming to TLC.
The US show is a follow up to 'Gypsy Brides US' - which was similar to Channel 4's 'My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding' - focusing on the lives of women who are part of the Stanley family in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
The show's matriarch Nettie explains how gypsy women tend to their homes while their men are on the road looking for work, and says the Stanleys are more upstanding than some other families.
In the first episode she explains: "There are gypsies that tell fortunes. There are gypsies that sell their kids. There are gypsies that women work for their husbands. We are not those kind of gypsies."
"We are Romanian gypsies settled in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
"We all have houses - and we love our houses."
The show also includes Nettie's younger sister, Mellie, a wildcard woman who works as a stripper and has a habit of getting drunk and fighting.
Talking about her chosen profession on the show, she says: "I don't like stripping. I like making the money, but that's about the only thing."
"I used to work at Vixens [strip club] but I got put on probation - for a customer conflict. I have to be on good behaviour so I can get my ass back into Vixens, so that I can make money.
"It's not going to stop me fighting. It's in my blood. I'm a gypsy and if somebody looks at me wrong I'm gonna beat the hell out of them."
The show also features Nettie's cousin Kayla, who constantly fights with her husband about their daughter and her life gets further complicated when her brother Gus and sister-in-law Laura move in with them, meaning they have 11 people living under one roof.
Gypsy Sisters premieres on TLC (Sky 125, Virgin 167 and BT Vision 875) on Wednesday June 26 at 9pm.
