John Simm sick of Doctor Who fans
John Simm is sick of 'Doctor Who' fans cornering him in supermarkets to ask about his role as villainous character The Master
John Simm wants 'Doctor Who' fans to leave him alone.
The actor - who played villainous character The Master opposite David Tennant's 10th Doctor in several episodes - is sick of being pestered about his highly memorable role by avid viewers of the hit BBC sci-fi show.
He told Radio Times magazine: "I do get a lot of 'Doctor Who'. God almighty, I'll be so happy when that's gone from my life. They don't want anything, they're just full on. It's great to be into something, but for goodness sake, really?"
"I'm not The Master. I'm not that evil Time Lord who rules the galaxy. I'm just in Tesco with my kids. Leave me alone."
Update: John Simm has since stated on Twitter that he's been quoted out of context.
The actor tweeted, "The Radio Times has really done a number on me re Dr Who 'quote'. Thanks for that! Suffice to say It was taken out of context AGAIN".
He went on to explain, "I haven't done an interview for them for many years, because of this. Nasty, spiteful, trouble causing 'Journalism'. I meant no disrespect to 'Whovians' or whoever. It's a non story. I always try to be polite to fans and am v proud of my time in the show. You can choose to believe what you like but I really meant no offence. I've obviously pissed off some bored journalist coz I wouldn't do an interview."
John, 42, played the Doctor's arch enemy in numerous episodes between 2007 and 2010 and was involved in David's final storyline as the heroic Time Lord before the actor bowed out of the role.
The 'Village' star also bemoaned missing out on a BAFTA TV award for Best Actor last year, when he was nominated for drama 'Exile', admitting he couldn't hide his disappointment.
He said: "You want to win it and you get really p***ed off when you don't. It's just a horrible thing to have to go through. I hated it when I went.
"And you've got a camera in your face so the world gets to watch your expression as you lose. I got a lot of s**t because I didn't hide anything and didn't pretend."
