'Dancing On Ice' is to come to an end in 2014, host Phillip Schofield has confirmed.

'Dancing On Ice' will end next year.

The ninth series of the ITV skating contest will be the last, host Phillip Schofield - who fronts the show with Christine Bleakley - has confirmed.

He tweeted: "Enjoy it while you can. Dancing on Ice 2014 will be the final series. And I can take up skiing again! ;) (sic)"

Phillip's confirmation came after Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean - who train the competing couples - announced the 2014 series would be their last as it coincides with the 30-year anniversary of their famous 'Bolero' performance, which won gold at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics.

Announcing the news on 'Daybreak' this morning (21.05.13), Christopher said: "Next year, 'Dancing On Ice' is going to be our final 'Dancing On Ice'. It's come full circle for us, its 30 years since 'Bolero' on February 14, Valentine's Day, next year and we thought for us, it's full circle.

"We've had this wonderful experience doing 'Dancing On Ice' and we just want to finish on the top of our game, when the show's at the top of its game.

"It's been hugely successful and some of the celebrities we've had have been amazing."

Torvill and Dean are "excited" about new opportunities, but are grateful to the show for propelling them back to popularity at a time they were ready to retire.

Jane said: "We have other plans to do other projects so we're excited about that, but the experience of 'Dancing On Ice' has been fantastic because we thought at that point we were going to retire, then here we were, able to tour again in front of huge audiences."

Christopher added: "We've loved the experience and being able to still do what we do and be watched on TV, it's been amazing but it has been nine series and all good things reach their finality, but other good things happen."

The pair also confirmed the 'Dancing On Ice' tour will return in 2014 after the show broadcasts.
