Spencer Matthews says 'The Only Way is Way is Essex' has gone downhill since losing "key characters".

The 'Made in Chelsea' star insists the E4 series has become "more interesting" than the ITV2 show since 'TOWIE' lost the likes of Mark Wright, and he claims the rival programme doesn't seem to have any history to it because there have been so many newcomers.

Speaking at the Annual Fifi UK Fragrance Awards 2013 in London last night (16.05.13), he told BANG Showbiz: "I don't want to sound like we're competing with 'TOWIE' but our viewing figures are higher and I do believe our show is more interesting.

"From a very unbiased view, just watching both, I prefer our show.

"I don't know whether it's more real or not but a lot of the key characters on 'TOWIE' have now left and a lot of the history behind it is no longer there so it's like picking up on season one every time, it hasn't got the Mark Wright rock."

Spencer also claims Made in Chelsea's Reality and Constructed Factual BAFTA - which they won on Sunday (12.05.13) - is a lot more important than when 'TOWIE' won the YouTube Audience BAFTA in 2011 because the latter was voted for by the public rather than the Academy.

He added: "We're just delighted because I think it's the first reality show of its genre to have ever own a BAFTA.

"'TOWIE', it won the people's choice BAFTA. It seems different. Not taking it away from them, it's obviously an extremely popular show and the audience knows them, which is amazing, but it is a different BAFTA."
