Bill Roache appeared in court yesterday (14.05.13) over two rape charges.
The 81-year-old actor - who has been accused of forcing a 15-year-old girl into sex in 1967 - was accompanied by a security guard to the routine hearing at Preston Magistrate's Court and didn't respond to any questions outside the court building.
Inside, he was led into the witness box and spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.
The 'Coronation Street' actor was bailed to next appear for a preliminary hearing on June 10 at Preston Crown Court.
He has already surrendered his passport, and bail conditions state he must reside either in his own home or with a relative in London.
He is also barred from having unsupervised access to anyone under the age of 16 and making contact with two named individuals.
The veteran soap star - who was arrested on May 1 - has insisted he is innocent.
He previously said: "[I will] strenuously deny the allegations and will now focus my full attention on fighting to preserve my innocence in the challenging times ahead.
"I would like to offer my sincere thanks to all those people who have offered me their support and good wishes at this difficult time,"
Following the charges, ITV issued a statement which confirmed Bill - who plays show stalwart Ken Barlow - will not appear in 'Coronation Street' until legal proceedings are over.
