Charlie Brooks to quit EastEnders?
Charlie Brooks is reportedly planning to quit 'EastEnders' again in order to try her luck in Hollywood.
Charlie Brooks is reportedly planning to quit 'EastEnders' again.
The 32-year-old actress - who only recently reprised her role as Janine Butcher following a six-month hiatus - is said to have told friends she wants to travel to America to seek Hollywood fame, and, because she only has a temporary contract, she could depart Albert Square in January.
A friend said: "Charlie wants to give a LA a try and won't be satisfied until she does.
"As far as she understands, there will be an option to return. Janine is a ratings winner, and she's hugely regarded among the cast and crew."
While the actress refused to confirm she wants to leave the soap, she insisted she is happy with her current storylines.
Asked about the speculation, she told The Sun newspaper: "I've only just returned to 'EastEnders' and I'm really happy.
"I've some big storylines coming up and am really excited by them."
The news comes after her co-star Shane Richie - who plays Alfie Moon - mocked soap actors who seek Hollywood success, only to return to the shows where they made their names.
He said: "They all want to come back. I did the same, 'I'm going to Hollywood' -- I got to Borehamwood!"
Charlie joined 'EastEnders' in 1999, taking over the role of Janine from Alexia Demetriou. She left in 2004 but returned for two episodes in April 2008, then came back to Walford full time in December of that year.
