Emmerdale's Laura Norton: Jeremy Kyle inspired Kerry
'Emmerdale' actress Laura Norton sought inspiration for her absent mum character Kerry Wyatt by watching 'The Jeremy Kyle Show'.
'Emmerdale' actress Laura Norton watched 'The Jeremy Kyle Show' to understand her character.
The actress plays party-loving mum Kerry Wyatt in the ITV soap felt watching the talk show would help her better portray her character's dysfunctional relationship with her daughter Amy (Chelsea Halfpenny).
She said: "I tuned in to watch women who will take no responsibility for their children, who think they are doing nothing wrong and play the victim. There were episodes where girls said their mums never loved them, yet the mums said it was the daughters' fault. It helped me understand Kerry."
Laura - who is set to be at the centre of an explosive new storyline when she accidentally sets the Dale View cottage on fire in a drunken stupor - also insisted the wardrobe department dress her in clothes perfect for her embarrassing mum character.
She added to The Sun newspaper: "I'm a size 12 but most of Kerry's clothes are size ten or eight and I have to pour myself into them. Her clothes are disgusting but Kerry thinks she's thinner and younger than she is. She picks dresses aimed at 20-year-olds, so it's certainly not a role for me to be vain in."
The Dale View blaze is set to air tonight (13.05.13) and Laura admits filming the combustible scenes were genuinely frightening.
She said: "It was a bit scary. You could feel the fire and there were a few moments where they told me to get out because the fire was too close."
