Steven Moffat says 'Doctor Who' series eight is "absolutely, definitely confirmed" and revealed filming for the 50th anniversary special episode has been completed.

Steven Moffat has confirmed series eight of 'Doctor Who' is "absolutely, definitely" happening.

The showrunner has been shocked by the number of people who have questioned whether the Time Lord will be returning to his TARDIS for another season, but remained tight-lipped on whether Matt Smith will reprise his role as the titular character.

Speaking at the Arqiva British Academy Television Awards at London's Royal Festival Hall last night (12.05.13), he told BANG Showbiz: "Series eight of 'Doctor Who' is absolutely, definitely confirmed. It is real and it's happening. People keep telling me it's not really happening but it really, honestly is. People keep asking me if it's happening, 'Yes, it is!' "

Steven also confirmed filming on the 50th anniversary episode has been completed, and while he warned fans some speculation surrounding the special show is "rubbish", he has got some good ideas for future episodes by hearing the "incredible" rumours.

He added: "We've finished filming the 50th anniversary episode now, it's all done, only just done. I think it went well, it's all in a big pile now so we've got to look at it but I think it's really good.

"Normally I'm responsible for the disinformation and the rubbish rumours about 'Doctor Who' episodes, but I haven't needed to for the 50th anniversary episode. People are spinning off the most amazing things - it's quite incredible!

"Some of them are actually quite good ideas, I might use them in the future. There have been some very creative rumours but I can't say which ones I'm actually going to use."

'Doctor Who' was celebrated at the BAFTA TV Awards last night in recognition of the programme's 50th anniversary.

Matt and Jenna-Louise Coleman - who plays the current Time Lord's assistant Clara Oswald - were involved in a pre-recorded sketch, which was screened at the ceremony before the brunette beauty took to the stage to present an award. Two Daleks were also on the BAFTA red carpet.
