Alicia Vikander is in negotiations to star in 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.'
The up-and-coming actress is said to be in talks for the lead female role in Guy Ritchie's big screen adaptation of the secret agent TV series, starring alongside 'Oblivion' actor Tom Cruise and 'Mirror, Mirror' star Armie Hammer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The original series - which had a successful run from 1964 to 1968 - followed United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.) spies Napoleon Solo and Soviet agent Illya Kuryakin, who fought against villainous group Thrush using their charm and gadgets.
Vikander would play a British agent who has an interest in cars - a role written specifically for the film - while Cruise is set to play Solo and Hammer will take on Kuryakin.
Lionel Wigram and John Davis will produce the feature for Warner Bros., who initially rooted for 'Side Effects' filmmaker Steven Soderbergh to direct with George Clooney as star, but Clooney pulled out of the project after having surgery and Soderbergh followed soon after.
This will be the Swedish actress' biggest film role to date after previously having a supporting part in Keira Knightley film 'Anna Karenina' and making regular appearances in TV shows in her native country.
