The final episode of 'The IT Crowd' will start shooting in three weeks' time.

Graham Linehan, creator and writer of the sitcom - which is set in a company IT department and revolves around the lives of three of the organisation's staff - confirmed at a Q&A at German conference re:publica that the 40-minute special will finally start filming after months of speculation.

Chris O'Dowd, Richard Ayoade, Katherine Parkinson and Matt Berry are all expected to reprise their roles as workers of fictional company Reynholm Industries, Bleeding Cool reports.

The one-off episode has been in development and pre-production for the past two and a half years but the stars of the show were reportedly too busy with other commitments to starting filming it.

Graham previously stated the one-off episode will be the last of the comedy series, which originally aired between 2006 and 2010.

Last year, Chris admitted he would be keen to reprise his role of laid-back Irish IT technician Roy Trenneman because the programme needs to end "properly".

He said: "I'd love to do something more with those characters," he admitted. "I don't think we said goodbye to them properly."
