Liz Dawn stunned by heart attack diagnosis
'Coronation Street' legend Liz Dawn's recent heart attack was said to have been the "shock of her life" after not realising she'd suffered a cardiac arrest over a week ago
Liz Dawn's heart attack was the "shock of her life".
The former 'Coronation Street' star was taken into hospital on Monday (29.04.13) after suffering a cardiac arrest on holiday in Spain nine days ago, and she is currently being looked after at home by her husband Donald Ibbertson.
The actress - who spent 34 years playing Vera Duckworth on the soap - retired from the show in 2008 and has emphysema, an incurable lung disease.
A source revealed: "Liz's health has been very poorly for a while now. When she was on holiday she had a couple of particularly bad days. Her breathing was poor and her ankles became swollen.
"She put it down to her lungs, but when she got back she thought it was important to get things checked out. Hearing the words 'heart attack' gave Liz the biggest shock of her life."
The 73-year-old star has been given new medication, and it is reported Liz is "determined" to make the full recovery hoped for by doctors.
The insider added: "She is determined to get better. Liz is a fighter and is being really positive. She has told her family she will get better.
"Her only wish is to be around for her kids, and to see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up."
