20th Century Fox has landed rights to make a new big screen adaptation of the hit musical created by Frank Loesser and are hoping to sign the 'Magic Mike' and 'The Dark Knight Rises' actors to star in the lead roles, according to Deadline.
The actors would play lead characters Sky Masterson and Nathan Detroit - the roles made famous by Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra in a 1955 film adaptation of the musical - in the proposed flick, but no deals are in place as yet and the studio has yet to hire a director or commission a script.
The musical is set in the seedy underworld of New York City where gambling addict Nathan tries to set up an unlicensed crap game but faces reluctance from proprietors to let him hold his game amidst a crackdown on illegal gambling. Nathan eventually finds a garage owner that will allow him to hold his game for an upfront payment of $1000 and thus Nathan makes a bet with his friend Sky that he can't seduce a wholesome girl to raise the money.
The stage version of the musical launched on Broadway in 1950 and there have been numerous revivals since.
