Alan Halsall and Lucy-Jo Hudson are expecting a baby girl.
The 'Coronation Street' actor and his wife - who he married in 2009 - are "so excited" about the news they will welcome a daughter into the world later this year, and when they found out the 'Wild At Heart' actress "screamed the house down".
Alan said: "We are so excited, we feel very lucky. It really took a hold on me, I was like, 'Wow'."
Lucy-Jo added: "I've always wanted a little girl. I screamed the house down when I found out."
The couple were able to find out the news in private, after taking advice from Alan's co-star Simon Gregson and his wife Emma, who recommended they ask the sonographer to write down the gender of the baby and seal it into an envelope to open later.
After waiting until they had enjoyed a romantic candlelit dinner, the pair opened the envelope.
Alan said: "The woman had written, 'Congratulations, it's a baby girl. We hope you have a great night.' I just burst into tears.
"It made it more personal because it was just our news for the first hour or so."
Though she is enjoying her pregnancy, Lucy-Jo had a tough first trimester with severe morning sickness.
She recalled: "It was really bad. I couldn't get out of bed some days."
In a joint interview with HELLO! magazine, Alan added: "I don't know why they call it morning sickness, it lasted all day.
"Luce would get really tired. We'd be sat chatting away and I'd turn to look at the telly for 20 seconds and she'd suddenly be fast asleep."
