Kasabian are the "ultimate" Glastonbury headliners.

The 'Fire' hitmakers are disappointed they aren't on the bill for this year's music festival - which will be headlined by Arctic Monkeys, The Rolling Stones and Mumford & Sons - and refuse to play "second fiddle" to other acts as they feel they deserve a headline slot of their own.

Singer Tom Meighan told NME magazine: "I'm not playing second fiddle to those bands, no way. We're just as good, if not better. We're the ultimate - we're the headline band. But [Glastonbury organiser, Michael Eavis] didn't call us, the b*****d. Ha. Glastonbury's on our to-do list. All he's got to do is pick up the phone.

"I wouldn't be on my bed cursing it [if we never got the call], but we've got every f**king right to headline Glastonbury because we're good enough. It will happen."

The band are working on their fifth album at the moment, and guitarist Serge Pizzorno wants it to have a more "aggressive" sound.

He said: "I want to push the sound. If it comes out next year it'll be the 10th anniversary from the first one [2004's self-titled 'Kasabian']. Pushing that electronic sound that we've had from the start would be the perfect way to round it off."
