'The X Factor' Creative Director Brian Friedman wants former panellist Cheryl Cole to return to the show as a judge.

Brian Friedman wants Cheryl Cole to return to 'The X Factor'.

The ITV show's Creative Director - who worked alongside the brunette beauty when she was a judge on the programme from 2008 to 2010 - is keen for the Girls Aloud singer to return to the panel because he believes the forthcoming series needs her "energy" and passion.

He said: "I'd love to see Cheryl on the panel. She has energy.

"There's going to be a reshuffle this year."

Following confirmation Simon Cowell will not take up a place on the panel in the forthcoming series, Brian also believes Gary Barlow should return as a judge because he sees the Take That singer as the "perfect stand-in" for the music mogul.

He added to the Daily Star newspaper: "Gary's the perfect stand-in for Simon Cowell."

The 'X Factor' judging panel is yet to be finalised for the next series but Sharon Osbourne is hot favourite to replace Tulisa - who has reportedly been axed from the programme - while Nicole is said to be undecided about whether to return to the show.

Gary and Louis Walsh are expected to take up their positions on the panel once again, but Noel Gallagher has reportedly been offered £2 million to join the show, suggesting one of the male judges may not return.

However, Cheryl has previously insisted she will not be returning to the show.
