Benedict Cumberbatch is to star in 'Crimson Peak'.
The 'Star Trek Into Darkness' actor has reportedly agreed a deal to appear alongside Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam in Guillermo del Toro's forthcoming haunted house thriller, Variety claims.
Information about the movie's plot has not been fully disclosed, but it will be a set-orientated, classical but modern take on the ghost story.
The writer/director has said: "It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules."
The filmmaker wrote the script with writing partner Matthew Robbins, and recently hired Lucinda Coxon, who penned 'The Crimson Petal and The White', to rework his draft.
Legendary Pictures - who financed del Toro's 'Pacific Rim' - are funding the movie, which is scheduled to begin filming in February 2014.
The role marks a busy time for Cumberbatch, who is currently filming the title role in the third series of TV drama 'Sherlock'.
He can next be seen in 'Star Trek Into Darkness', which is released next month and then providing the voice and movement capture for Smaug the dragon in 'The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug', which is out in December, as well as the third film in the series, 'There And Back Again', which is due for release in December 2014.
Additionally, he has been working on Julian Assange biopic 'The Fifth Estate', 'August: Osage County' and 'Twelve Years A Slave'.
