'Dr Who' anniversary special will feature Zygons
The long-awaited 50th anniversary special of 'Dr Who' will feature the extra-terrestrial race Zygons for the first time since 1975 according to the show's official Twitter page
Zygons will appear in the 'Doctor Who' anniversary episode.
Images of the extra-terrestrial characters, who first appeared in the British TV series in 1975 and battled the Fourth Doctor in 'Terror of the Zygons', appearing on the set were released on Tuesday (02.04.13) through the show's official Twitter page, including one of the sucker-covered aliens standing in a sun-lit field.
The Zygons - which have shape-shifting abilities, allowing them to replicate the appearance of another being - have featured in several other 'Doctor Who' episodes in recycled archive footage but the long-awaited 50th anniversary special episode of the BBC One sci-fi show will mark the first time they make a proper on-screen return.
It was previously revealed that 'Gavin and Stacey' star Joanna Page will also appear in the anniversary special, which will feature an all-star line-up including former Time Lord David Tennant and his beloved sidekick Billie Piper as well as 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' actor John Hurt.
This marks the first time David will reprise his role since his last appearance as the time-traveller on January 1, 2010. Billie is set to return as companion Rose Tyler, who she played for two series following the show's reboot in 2005.
Current Time Lord Matt Smith and his brand new sidekick Jenna-Louise Coleman - who portrays Clara Oswald - will also star in the 3D episode.
Filming on the 50th anniversary episode beings this week, while the current series of 'Doctor Who' continues on Saturday at 6.15pm on BBC One.
