Coldplay's 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' has been voted BBC Radio 2 listeners' favourite album of all time.

'The Scientist' band's 2002 record beat The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and U2 to claim top spot when the albums were counted down yesterday (01.04.13) on the radio station, which is the most popular in the UK.

Upon hearing the news, the band posted on their official website: "Good evening. We're very pleased to report that Coldplay's 2002 album, 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head', was today named BBC Radio 2's Favourite Album, following a listeners' poll. Enormous thanks to all of you who voted."

Second place in the poll went to Keane, and their 2004 debut 'Hopes and Fears', followed by Duran Duran's 'Rio' and Pink Floyd's 'The Dark Side Of The Moon'.

Radio 2's head of music, Jeff Smith, said: "Musicians such as Coldplay and Dido have struck a chord with listeners and are in good company in the Top 10 alongside legendary bands like the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, whose appeal remains undiminished after all these years."

Albums which made the chart ranged from Frank Sinatra's 'Songs for Swingin' Lovers!' released in 1956 to Emeli Sandé's 'Our Version Of Events', which came out last year.
