Ant and Dec topped the UK singles chart with their 1994 hit 'Let's Get Ready to Rhumble' yesterday (01.04.13).

The 'Saturday Night Takeaway' presenters climbed to the summit after performing the track - which they recorded under their 'Byker Grove' character names PJ and Duncan - on the show last week (23.03.13), and the pair thanked their "mental" fans for helping them achieve their first ever number one.

In a series of tweets - which were accompanied by a picture of the duo celebrating their achievement with glasses of champagne - they wrote: "O.M blummin' G! We're Number blummin' 1! Thank u! You're all nuts but we love! Cheers! D

"Thanks to you mental lot who downloaded the track. It's all down to you. We are no1! Still can't believe it! A (sic)"

Simon Cowell - who appeared on 'Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway' on Saturday (30.03.13) - was quick to praise the presenting pair on their remarkable achievement.

He tweeted: "Congrats ant and dec on your number one. Amazing. Had a lot of fun on the show last night. (sic)"
