Natalie Gumede's 'surprise' at Corrie exit
Natalie Gumede was shocked at how teary she became while filming her final 'Coronation Street' scenes, but admits it was a "healthy" time to leave the show after playing such a psychotic character for nearly two years
Natalie Gumede was "surprised" at how emotional she got filming her final 'Coronation Street' scenes.
The 29-year-old actress has portrayed vile villain Kirsty Soames in the ITV soap for just under two years and while she found it difficult to wave goodbye to her castmates on her final day of filming, she thinks it was a "healthy" time to depart the show after playing such a psychotic character.
She said: "It was really tough but I was ready to leave ... I think it was a healthy time to go after such an intense storyline, but it's surprising how a place kind of creeps under your skin, and I don't think I could've wished to work with a better team, so it did surprise me how emotional I was at leaving."
Viewers have seen violent Kirsty falsely accuse ex-fiance Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) of domestic violence, during which time she has been the one beating him up, and Natalie admits filming such serious scenes has taught her a lot in a short space of time.
Speaking on 'This Morning', she added: "Alan is a joy to work with - he makes it so easy for me. We are very well looked after and the [fighting] scenes are really tightly choreographed so of course Alan is never ever hurt, but they are very intense.
"I've learnt probably how sensitive I am ... it can be quite a wrench on your emotions and also a confidence builder, you learn so much in such a short amount of time."
Kirsty is set to lash out at factory worker Julie (Katy Cavanagh) as she begins to crack under pressure.
'Coronation Street' bosses have filmed two endings to the trial but bosses are remaining tight-lipped about which one they will be using.
