James McAvoy has revealed that the 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' script is "satisfying" and says the film will be enjoyable to fans both new and old

James McAvoy says 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is "satisfying" yet "unexpected".

The actor - who reprises his role as a young Professor X in the latest installment of the mutant superhero franchise - is excited to begin work on the Bryan Singer-directed film, which will unite cast members from 2011's 'X-Men: First Class' with stars from the original 'X-Men' trilogy, and feels the latest big screen adventure will be enjoyable for audiences both old and new.

In an interview with IAmRogue.com, he said: "I read the script yesterday. It's great. It's really good and strong. I think fans will love it. I think people who have never seen any of the 'X-Men' films before are going to be really into it. I think it's satisfying and giving people what they want, while at the same time being challenging and giving them something different, new, and unexpected."

McAvoy is also looking forward to working with Sir Patrick Stewart, who originated the role of Professor X in the original 'X-Men' trilogy between 2000 and 2006, but isn't sure if he'll have scenes with Sir Ian McKellen, who will reprise his role as the elder version of villain Magneto.

He added: "Then also, getting to team up with Sir Patrick. I don't know if I get to work with Sir Ian, but it should be a real exciting time I think."

The actors will be joined by an A-list cast including Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Omar Sy and Peter Dinklage.

The film will centre on the theme of time travel as the older X-Men reach out to their younger 'First Class' incarnations to stop a future genocide of mutants.

'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is due for release in 2014.

When the mutants of the future face extinction, they send Wolverine (Jackman) back in time to change destiny. The finale is too effects-heavy and non-fans may question whether it all makes sense, but the principal players are all on top form and the slick direction and smart writing are at times enormously entertaining.
