Cat’s out of the bag as Blue Peter apologises
Blue Peter has apologised to viewers after an online poll was rigged to name the show’s cat.
The cat was named Socks, revealed to be the second most popular name from the results of the poll.
Viewers had actually chosen the moniker Cookie.
The children’s programme, which cost the BBC a £50,000 Ofcom fine when it fixed a phone-in competition earlier this year, made the gesture during the first episode of the new series.
Presenter Zoe Salmon spoke on behalf of the programme, telling viewers: “We’d like to say that we’re sorry.”
A new kitten named Cookie was also introduced to viewers.
