Shobna Gulati was "terrified" filming her 'Coronation Street' exit.
The 46-year-old star is to depart the ITV soap after 12 years when her character Sunita Alahan dies in the Rovers Return fire and the actress found the conditions for shooting the scenes "horrific".
She explained to new! magazine: "I was terrified. We were coughing up smoke, my jacket started to steam.
"And when I left work, I sat in the car and cried. I thought of everyone who'd ever been in an accident or a disaster, because the heat of that fire was horrific.
"I could feel the burn beginning on my skin. They had a bucket of cold water there for me to cool my body down."
Shobna - who is dating 30-year-old 'This Morning' runner Tony Brown - felt very "sad" about her alter ego being killed off, but thinks it was the right decision in the long run.
When asked how she felt about being killed off, she replied: "Sad. My boyfriend sent me a text saying he was having a rough day and I sent one back saying, 'Did you die? I died today!'
"I think I've reached a point in my life where I don't want to come back. But I've been emotional for the last eight weeks and tears have come quickly."
