Rebecca Hall has joined the cast of 'Transcendence'.

The 'Iron Man 3' actress will play Johnny Depp's wife and fellow academic in Wally Pfister's directorial debut, a sci-fi thriller about a man who creates a computer program that develops an awareness.

The secretive film, scripted by Jack Paglen, is thought to be in the vein of '2001: A Space Odyssey' and 'Inception', according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Johnny will play a scientist whose brain is uploaded after his death into a supercomputer by female scientist Evelyn (Rebecca). Paul Bettany is also on board to star.

This marks Wally's first foray behind the camera after years of collaborating with 'The Dark Knight Rises' filmmaker Christopher Nolan as cinematographer.

Rebecca first caught Wally's eye when she worked with him on Christopher's magician movie 'The Prestige'. It was previously reported she faced competition from fellow brunettes Emily Blunt and Rooney Mara to land the female lead.

Christopher and Emma Thomas are executive producing, and filming kicks off in April in Los Angeles for a mid-2014 release date.
