ITV unveil new flagship Saturday show
ITV are to broadcast 'Your Face Sounds Familiar' - a celebrity singing contest - on Saturday nights this summer
ITV are planning a new "fun" celebrity singing contest to air on Saturday nights.
Channel bosses have picked up the rights to Endemol's 'Your Face Sounds Familiar', which is billed as a cross between old favourite 'Stars In Their Eyes' - a competition which saw members of the public transformed into celebrities - and 'The X Factor', and will air on Saturday nights in the summer.
The show - which originated in Spain and has also broadcast in Italy, Ukraine, Portugal, Romania and Chile - will see seven celebrities impersonate different music stars over six weeks, with a panel of judges - who will give a group performance every week - giving points for singing, style and believability, and the winner decided by a public vote.
The same stars will take part every week, but they will tackle a different performer each week, who could be of a different age group and even a different gender.
The contestants will choose who they want to be in the first week, but the following episodes will see their musical alter egos generated by pressing a buzzer, with contestants in other countries previously tackling the likes of Lady Gaga, Elvis Presley and Beyonce.
There are no eliminations until the semi-final and the public choose a winner, with the triumphant celebrity selecting a charity to receive a cash prize.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: "Bosses have got high hopes for this. There is a gap in the market for another big entertainment show, particularly with the decline in ratings for 'The X Factor'.
"It is not going to be the most serious programme and bosses want celebs who are up for some fun and will be pretty gung-ho about it.
"It is all for charity and will be very light-hearted. There will be a lot of laughs along the way."
